Communities Served:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the YMCA of Rock River Valley serves children/youth from Boone and Winnebago counties. The following cities fall within our service area:

Community Based Mentoring Program:

Traditional mentoring program where Big/Little arrange activities on their own time. Quarterly activities are sponsored by Big Brothers Big Sisters for matches. All matches are supported by a qualified/trained case manager.
• Minimum one year commitment to the match
• Activities are arranged by matches that might include hikes, a visit to the library or museum, a minor league baseball game or a school event
• Face to face meetings take place twice per month for match
• Alternate weeks the match doesn’t meet a phone call to make contact is highly recommended
• The Big Brother/Sister becomes a BIG deal in the life of the Little Brother/Sister

School Based Mentoring Program:

Mentoring Program is held weekly in a local elementary or middle school. Big/Little may play board games, work on the computer, visit the library, read or play in the gym. No activities are conducted outside the school. A Big Brother Big Sister case manager is present at the school during the match. All matches are support by a qualified/trained case manager.
• Minimum one academic year commitment to the match (October through May)
• One hour per week- same time, same location
