Active Older Adults


I.D. Pennock Branch

AOA Strength Training
You don’t have to lose your strength! In the Strength Training Center you’ll be guided through exercises to improve muscle tone and flexibility using machines and free weights and lots of personal attention!

AOA Fitness Experts now say that a lot of what we have come to expect with aging can be avoided if we keep up a healthy lifestyle, including appropriate exercise. This 30-minute class will improve cardiovascular endurance, muscle tone, and flexibility using weights, tubing, and stability balls.

AOA Aqua As we age our exercise needs change, but they don’t go away! This 30- minute shallow warm water exercise class is designed to improve muscle tone, flexibility and strength. Swimming not required.

Joyful Joints This Arthritis Foundation YMCA Aquatic Program is for adults with all types of arthritis who are able to walk on land for 15 minutes or in the water for 5 minutes without excessive pain or fatigue. This 60-minute recreational exercise program in chest-high warm water will increase range of motion and flexibility. Swimming is not required.

SilverSneakers ® Cardio Circuit Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a SilverSneaker® ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching, and relaxation exercises.

Northeast Branch

Fit Older Adults Forever Come and experience a rewarding opportunity to be fit and stay fit. Chair exercises and many options of equipment will be incorporated into this class. Stretching, toning and muscle building will begin with sitting in chairs and progress to a more challenging program. In this class the chair will be used for both sitting and for balance while standing. Move, stretch and strengthen your muscles in this low-impact, low-intensity class. This is a fun, creative class if you have any physical limitations or in perfect health this class will be perfect for you!

Active Older Adult (AOA) This 45-minute shallow warm water exercise class is designed to improve muscle tone, flexibility and strength. Swimming not required.


I.D. Pennock and Northeast Branch

SilverSneakers ® Muscular Strength & Range of Movement Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
Class is open to the first 30 Humana and AARP Insurance members. If chairs are available, the class is open to the fitness members. For more information, contact Jane Johnson at 815-489-1210.
