Policies

MEMBERSHIP ID CARD

Your membership card is your YMCA identification. Members must present their YMCA ID for entrance to the facility; this includes children 10 and older. This policy is for your safety and that of other members. Your initial membership card is free of charge. There is a $5 charge for replacement cards.

GUEST PASS POLICY

Effective mid-January 2011 - Each single member will be issued three free electronic guest passes annually. Single Parent family and Sr. Couple members will receive 6 electronic guest passes, and families will receive 9 guest passes to be shared with friends and family. YMCA members are responsible for the actions of their guests. All guests are required to show a photo ID and sign the release of liability waiver. Each guest may use the facility three times per calendar year. Guest access may be restricted during peak usage times. Members may also purchase guest passes. Please ask your Welcome Center Associate for guest fees.

UPDATING INFORMATION

Under the terms of your membership agreement, it is your responsibility to ensure all information on your membership account is accurate and current. This includes changes in your credit card, checking/saving account used to pay your monthly draft, your primary phone number, home address, email address, and emergency contact information.

To update your account information, the YMCA offers these options:

  • By phone: Call 815-489-1280 between 8:30 am - 5:00 pm weekdays
  • In person: ID Pennock/Northeast Branch Welcome Centers during facility hours
  • For all other updates (other than account information), in addition to the options above you may also send us an email to klape@rockfordymca.org

This is your YMCA; make your concerns and comments known. Member Comment cards are available at the Welcome Centers.

PHOTO POLICY

The YMCA reserves the right to take photographs of adults and children participating in YMCA programs to be used in promotional literature. If you do not wish to be included please inform the photographer. We reserve the right to restrict use of picture-taking devices. This includes cell phones.

YOUTH POLICY

For the safety and benefit of all our members, children 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult at ALL times. Children 7 through 9 must have an adult age 18 or over on the premises at all times. UNACCOMPANIED children ages 10-12 may use the YMCA after 2 pm on weekdays. Youth ages 10 and older are required to carry their photo ID while using the YMCA. Children age 15 and younger must be accompanied by a parent/adult after 9pm on weekdays. Parents are responsible for the actions of their children.

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION

The YMCA of Rock River Valley is mandated by state law to report any suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities for investigation.

LOCKER ROOMS

  • Adults with same-gender children should use either the Boys or Girls Locker Rooms.
  • Adult Locker Rooms are for ADULTS ONLY age 21 years and over.

SPECIAL NEEDS/FAMILY LOCKER ROOM

The Special Needs/Family Locker Room is handicap accessible and designed for:

  • Special needs individuals regardless of age
  • Adults with an opposite-gender caregiver
  • Parents with young children (ages 6 and under) of opposite gender who have difficulty using the Boys/Girls Locker Rooms on their own (e.g. fathers with daughters; mothers with sons)
  • Individuals with special needs who need assistance are encouraged to bring a family member, friend, or an employed assistant with them during their time at the YMCA.

ATTIRE

Athletic shoes and shirts must be worn during exercise in all workout areas of the facility. Street shoes and street clothes are not permitted in the gyms, training centers, or pools. Proper swimsuits must be worn when using the pool. We strongly recommend the use of eye guards for racquetball. For safety reasons, please do not bring gym bags into our training centers or weight rooms.

POOL INFORMATION

Current pool schedules are available at our Welcome Centers or you may access updated schedules here.

  • All swimmers must take a shower before entering the pool
  • Children 3 and under must wear swim diapers AND rubber pants
  • Lifejackets are not allowed or provided during recreational swim periods
  • Appropriate swimwear is required
  • Participants must be 42” tall to use the waterslide; smaller children will be permitted on the slide if they successfully complete a swim test administered by a lifeguard.
  • Pools are closed if lightning is spotted
  • Lifeguards are in charge of the pool area and are responsible for the safety of everyone. Please be respectful of his/her position

FOOD AND BEVERAGES

No food permitted in the gyms, pools, or workout areas. Beverages limited to water bottles and sports drinks only.

TRAINING CENTERS

We strongly recommend anyone using the Y or entering an exercise program consult with a physician in advance. Members and guests participate at their own risk. We urge everyone to make provisions for insurance coverage with their own personal insurance program. Youth ages 13–15 years must complete a Youth Orientation before utilizing our training centers. See Welcome Center Associate for details. Children ages 12 and under may not access the training centers. We strongly recommend that all new members schedule an equipment orientation.

FITNESS CLASSES

Our unlimited fitness classes run all year long and are free to YMCA of Rock River Valley members. No registration is required. Classes are multi-level and are designed for ages 13 and over. Class size may be limited due to gym/pool space and equipment availability. Schedules and descriptions of classes are available here or at the Welcome Center. Fee-based specialty classes run on sessions and are listed in our program guide.

PERSONAL TRAINING

Personal and Group Training packages are available. Please ask your Welcome Center Associate for details. Only YMCA of Rock River Valley personal trainers may provide personal training services in our facilities. For news, updates, and features on the Y, visit www.rockfordymca.org. The YMCA of Rock River Valley ensures that all information provided by users online and in person for membership or program sign-up is to be used solely by the YMCA of Rock River Valley for the purpose of providing member and program services. All personal information, including email addresses, will never be sold or given to a third party. The YMCA of Rock River Valley reserves the right to use member/participant information for program or membership promotions, for surveys and, on occasion, for donations (e.g. Strong Kids Campaign).

MEMBER CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT POLICY

Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to help make the YMCA of Rock River Valley a fun, safe, and enjoyable place for all members and guests.

Policy
It is the policy of this YMCA that all interactions between members take place in an atmosphere of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Whenever and wherever possible, staff shall strive to ensure the support of this environment. To this end, we ask our members to observe and actively model the following behaviors.

HONESTY

  • Do not take things that do not belong to you.
  • Report any inappropriate or illegal conduct to a YMCA staff person immediately
  • Return any lost or misplaced items to the Member Service Cente
  • Refrain from passing or sharing your membership card with anyone else
  • Members are expected to enter and exit the facility honestly and appropriately.

CARING

  • Use appropriate language to avoid offending others
  • Avoid loud or boisterous behavior that could offend or disturb other people or classes
  • Seek to help or get assistance for those in need

RESPECT

  • Respect other people's rights to participate in the same area
  • Treat others the way you would like to be treated
  • Have fun, but not at the expense of others
  • The YMCA is a smoke-free environment

RESPONSIBILITY

  • Follow the safety rules and other guidelines posted in and around the building
  • Avoid foul language, arguing, fighting or any other form of harassment or intimidation
  • Members are responsible for their own behavior as well as the actions of their guests
  • The YMCA is a "neutral zone." Displaying gang jewelry, clothing, symbols, hand signs, etc., is prohibited.
  • YMCA members and guests are encouraged to report suspicious or inappropriate behavior to YMCA personnel.

The YMCA has zero tolerance for any form of illegal activity, sexual abuse or child abuse and will prosecute all offenders.

The YMCA of Rock River Valley has a sensible and appropriate disciplinary action plan in place that staff are trained to implement in the event of a Member Character Development Policy violation. In order to maintain the safety and well-being of all YMCA members and staff, we reserve the right to deny or cancel membership privileges or ask any member or guest to leave the YMCA premises at any time for any reason.
