School Age Child Care
As the largest childcare provider in Winnebago County, your YMCA provides family-centered, values-based programs to nurture children’s healthy development.
YMCA School Age Centers are located at elementary schools throughout Winnebago County. Working with both the Rockford and Harlem school districts, this program offers a quality childcare program that is affordable and conveniently located right at the elementary school. In addition to providing childcare in a safe, nurturing environment, parents trust in knowing that all activities at the YMCA School Age Center promote character development through caring, respect, honesty and responsibility. This successful program has positively influenced the lives of thousands of Rock River Valley families.

School Age Center Staff:
- Specially trained adults
- Ongoing training required
- Background checked and drug tested
- CPR trained and certified
- There is one staff member for every 12 children.
School Age Center Curriculum:
- Arts and humanities
- Character development
- Wellness, health and fitness
- Homework assistance
- Reading assistance
- Social skills
- Self-esteem and problem solving
Hours of Operation:
- The School Age Center hours of operation for all Rockford School District schools is 6:45am until school starts, and from the time school lets out until 5:30pm.
- Not all Rockford schools have a morning program. The following schools do have a morning program: Brookview, Rolling Green, Washington, & Whitehead.
Program Fees and Payment:
- Based on how often the program is used
- Calculated per morning or afternoon session – 1-5 days per week
- Payment may be made by check or money order
- Payment is due one week prior to the week of service

Registration:
To register your children for either Galapagos or Legacy School Age Center, print and bring the appropriate registration form and enrollment application, filled out, with the registration fee and first week's payment to the School Age Center you would like your child to attend. Financial aid is available to those who qualify. To apply for financial assistance print the Child Care Solutions form below and follow the instructions on the form.
