Route The Head of the Rock Regatta runs the Rock River from Riverside Blvd. bridge to Whitman St. bridge (approx. 3 mi.). To download a map of the route, click here.

Meals
  • Dinner 5:00-8:30pm Saturday Oct 8. Price is $6 for all-you-can-eat pasta, salad, bread, milk, coffee.
  • Breakfast 6:00-9:30am Sunday Oct 9. Price is $6 for all-you-can-eat cereal, bagels, fruit, yogurt, juice, milk, coffee.
  • Both meals will be at the Verdi Club, 782 N. Madison St. The Verdi Club is on the east bank of the Rock River, one block south of the YMCA.
  • Tickets for the meals can be purchased when you register on RegattaCentral.com.
  • Food vendors will be on the regatta grounds on race day.
Lodging Floorspace is available in the YMCA the night of Saturday Oct 8 for no charge. Please enter the number of people staying overnight in the YMCA when you register your team on RegattaCentral.com.

Additionally, A block of rooms have been reserved at the Hampton Inn for Saturday October 8 - Sunday October 9, 2010. A special room rate will be available until September 10th or until the group block is sold-out, whichever comes first. You can register for these rooms at the Hampton Inn.
Rules The Head of the Rock is registered with USRowing. The 2011 USRowing Rules of Rowing apply unless specified otherwise below.
Competitors For purposes of this regatta the age of a competitor is his or her age on 31-Dec-2011.
  • Junior:  Any competitor who is 18 years of age or less, or who is currently enrolled in high school.
  • Novice:  Any rower or coxswain who has competed for one year or less as of 9-Oct-2011.
  • Masters:  Any competitor 27 years of age or older. Masters classes are as follows:
                    Elite:  27 or older
    Master:  37 or older
    Senior:  48 or older
    Veteran:  60 or older
    The age of a masters crew is the average age of the competitors.
  • Mixed Crew:   Must have equal number of male and female rowers.
  • Lightweight Men:  No individual rower may weigh more than 163 lb.
  • Lightweight Women:  No individual rower may weigh more than 133 lb.
  • Coxswain:   No weight restrictions.
Weigh-ins Lightweight crews must weigh in at least two hours prior to race time in the YMCA lobby. Crews must weigh in together wearing race attire. A rower only needs to weigh in once if racing in multiple events.
Penalties
  • 10 seconds per buoy violation.
  • Disqualification for racing with a wrong bow number.
  • 10 seconds for late arrivals at the start.
  • 10 seconds for missing correct order at start line.
  • 30 seconds for interfering with the staging of the start.
  • 30 seconds to crews not yielding to right of way.
  • 30 seconds for poor sportsmanship.
  • 60 seconds for no bowmarker
Protests Protests must be made within 30 minutes of the finish of the race. A $25 protest fee with written statement must be turned in at the registration table. Fee will be refunded if protest is upheld.
