Weigh In Guidelines for Head of The Rock Regatta 2011
1. Lightweights:
- A lightweight crew is one that complies with the requirements below. An open event is one that is not a lightweight event.
2. Men:
- No individual rower shall weigh more than 160 lbs.
- A male single sculler (1x) shall not weigh more than 160 lbs.
- A Junior men’s lightweight crew is one in which no individual rower weighs more than 160 lbs.
- A men’s Masters lightweight crew is one in which no individual rower weighs more than 160 lbs.
- The coxswain shall not be counted for purposes of this rule.
3. Women:
- A women's lightweight crew, including a single scull (1x), shall have no rower who weighs more than 130 lb.
- The coxswain shall not be counted for purposes of this rule.
4. Coxswain's Weight:
- A coxswain in an event for men’s crews shall weigh at least 120 lbs.
- A coxswain in an event for women’s crews shall weigh at least 110 lbs.
- Coxswains who do not comply with subsection (a) above shall carry deadweight, such as sand or other ballast, in order to achieve the minimum weight. Any such deadweight shall be placed in the boat as close to the torso of the coxswain as possible, and it is specifically forbidden to distribute deadweight throughout the boat.
- Excess clothing, equipment, electronic systems, tools, or other utilitarian devices germane to competition, shall not be considered part of the coxswain’s weight and shall not be included as part of any deadweight in(b) above.
5. Weighing of Competitors:
- The weight of rowers in lightweight and junior events, as well as coxswains, shall be determined once each day no less than one (1) hour and no more than two (2) hours before the scheduled time of the first race in which the weight is relevant. Competitors shall be weighed in racing uniform, without shoes or other footgear.
- Crews will be weighed in the order that they sit in the boat (bow to stern).
- Each junior rower shall have only one (1) initial opportunity to weigh in.
- A competitor within one (1.0) pound or less of the weight standard is allowed one (1) re-weigh within the official weigh-in time window.
- A competitor whose initial weight is greater than one (1.0) pound above the weight standard will be ineligible to compete in the event.
6. Instructions:
- The entire crew must line up in order of seat from bow to stern. Do not start weights until all members are present.
- Have each member print their name in the weigh in form
- The weigh in volunteer will check rowers photo ID and document on the weigh in form.
- Record the individual weights on the form assure that the individual and team average weights meet the definitions above (also on form).
- Once the crew has passed the weigh in apply the wrist band on each rower.
- Coxwains should be recorded separately on the form (weight is not included in the average but must meet the guidelines above.)
- If a coxswain must use “deadweight” indicate the amount required and radio information to race officials, assuring that the coxswain and coach are informed of requirements.
- Keep the official form with the Weigh-in chairperson.
