2014 Community Dinner
The YMCA of Rock River Valley will be holding its Annual Community Fundraising Dinner on March 20, 2014. Approaching only its second year, the annual dinner is following a very successful inaugural year that brought in over 700 guests. This year, the dinner will take on a healthy living theme and will feature special guest speaker Dr. Patch Adams, physician, social activist, clown and author.
Dedicated to bringing both humor and health to his patients, children, and people alike, Dr. Patch Adams’ presentation is, now more than ever, relevant to our community. According to a study conducted by Gallup Healthways, Winnebago County was named the fourth fattest county in the nation. But being healthy means more than simply maintaining weight and being active. It’s about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind and body. As Dr. Adams says, “Being happy is the best cure for all diseases.” Learn more about Dr. Patch Adams here
The YMCA is dedicated to promoting healthy living in our community, and also puts forth the effort to be the change agent that inspires transformation. For example, the YMCA recently launched the Y Community Health Challenge, a 10-week boot camp designed to push people to complete their goals alongside other members of the program, creating a support system within our community.
The dinner will be held at Giovanni’s, 610 North Bell School Road, Rockford and will begin at 5:30pm. In addition to the guest presentation, several Rockford locals will be honored with awards presented by the YMCA of Rock River Valley. Among them, the Teen Leadership Award will be given to a teen, aged 15-19, who exemplifies leadership within the Rockford community. Nomination forms can be downloaded here
